I looked into the Ellis Island Passenger List and found Michl Simkonzin, arr: 1/16/1906 etc. I know his birth date from his daughter, Mary, my Mother-in-law. Mary was born in Slovakia 2/10/1906. I then looked at the 1910,20,and 30 US census. The other household members were Michael and Anna's children. The surname was spelled Simkangon,Shimkinin,Shimkanon. Two different birth places: 1910 said Austria, and 1920 said Hungary Slovakia. Mary said she was born in Slovakia. She and her Mother Anna Julia immigrated to the US in 1908 when Mary was 2 years old. I haven't been able to find anything on the passenger list of 1908 for a Anna Julia Simkanin.

Kocanova was a sister to Anna. The other name on the letter was Michael Kavcak.

I am new to to gennealogy. I have looked online at the Rootsweb and Ancestry.com websites, but haven't figured out how to really navigate in them.
