Re: Cvitkovich family
Hi Patricia,
The posts that you are reading here are correct. The Cvitkovic (or Cvitkovich) name is in fact Croatian, though my brother did some research years ago which brought up an interesting fact: Centuries ago, "we" were Russian nomads who eventually relocated to Croatia and settled there.
If you are trying to trace the Cvitkovich name, don't forget that it's quite possible that they entered America through NovaScotia (Canada). My "staritata" (grandfather: George Cvitkovich) came over to Canada in the 40s I believe. We have cousins located in Windsor who still have the original spelling of the surname (Cvitkovic). Another fact: the "h" was added to the last name by some immigrants only to assist North Americans in how to properly pronouce the name. We also had some distant relatives who moved down to Ohio, though I never met them and don't recall their names.
Contact me: [email protected] if you need further assistance in tracing your friends roots. My aunt may be able to help in providing names. She's very good at tracing our family's roots. Who knows, your friend may have Canadian blood in him/her, and we may be relatives!
