Surname Vordick - Desperately need help.
Looking for any information on the Vordick surname name.
Earliest record I have been able to find is John Paul Vordick born abt 1868(according to census, Texas) died Jan 04, 1922, buried Wharton County, Texas. Married Louise Elizabeth (Blumrich) Vordick, born 1878(according to census, Texas) died Jul 04, 1961, buried Wharton County, Texas.
The Blumrich family has been very well traced by other members of that line. The Vordick line is my brickwall.
Since I can not travel, my research is only done by computer. Unless I have overlooked it, a male Vordick can not be found on census, ship's passenger list or what immigration records I can access.
I'm not even sure what origin of the name is. I feel like somewhere along the line the spelling may have changed but have no idea what it might have been before.
This name is pronounced Vor (war but with a V) dick (Tom, Dick & Harry). I wonder if any one might be able to provide the Czech spelling for the way the name is pronounced.
The oldest grandson of John Paul Vordick is 83 and I'm doing this research for him. He knows very little about his grandparents except they spoke German. In fact, his grandmother never learned or refused to speak English.
The 1910 census of Wharton County, Texas show that John Paul Vordick's father was born in Tenn. However, the 1920 census of Wharton County, Texas shows that his father was born in Texas.........Both census show that his mother was born in Germany.
One person said in a German phone directory they found no Vordick but 6 entries for Verdick, all in Northern Germany. A phone directory of the Netherlands showed no Vordicks but 17 entries for Verdick........
Any information or suggestions will be appreciated.
