You need to find his place of birth among his US documents. You do need to go backwards generation by generation collecting documents with the hope that one of them will have a place of birth.

Any luck locating his arrival manifest? He certainly did not come alone. Most of the time our family traveled with family or someone from the village as to communicate on a long journey to America.
