Hello James,

My name is Debbie and I was very happy to see your posting as it confirmed the story I was told, about the name change from Czarnecki. I was born Deborah Charnitski. The name was changed for the reason of fitting in better with the town people in order to get more business. Several brothers each owned their own butcher shop and/or General Store. My understanding was they wanted to sound more Polish and not so Russian. Now we need to figure out how we are related. My Dad was from Mocanaqua/Nanticoke area. Please e-mail me.
