William Cyrus was originally William Sires. The family changed the spelling some time between 1850 and 1860 in Wayne Co., WV. Wm. was one of several children of Jesse Sires and Frances Smith who probably married in Stokes Co., NC and moved to Wayne Co. WV about 1808-1810. Wm. had an older sister, Phoebe who married Alexander Hazlett. He also had brothers Thomas, Abraham and Smith, all of whom lived in Wayne Co. I have recorded over 18,000 descendants of this Sires family, originally from Fauquier/Prince William co., VA.
