Bert,
The dates you have listed for your Cyrus's match so closely to mine that I am wondering if my William Cyrus/Syrus (spelled both ways)
is your William's uncle.

My Wm. Cyrus was b.1794 in Stokes Co., N.C. d. 1867 in VA. married Rebeckah Boulton. Williams' son, John Cyrus/Sires was b. 20 May 1813 in Cable Co. VA. his wife is Elizabeth White, there son is Jethro Nevel Sires b. 8 Apr. 1837 in KY. d. 1923 in MO.
One of the difficulties with this last name is it's several spelling variations. Sayres, Syrus, Cyrus, Sires. It is believed that the Cyrus's came from Scotland.

I would check Stokes Co. N.C. records for info. on your William's parents. Possibly check tax records or Wills & probate records. Also listed in the 1850 Putnam Co. Va. census is Henry Cyrus b. 1825 VA. and James Cyrus b.1818 VA. Maybe his brothers ?
Let me know if you have additional info. that could help match our families as I have a book with my Cyrus line history. Debbie

John's father is William Cyrus b. 1794 in N.C. d. 25 Mar. 1867 VA. married to Rebeckah Boulton.
