I've had a breakthrough that I'd like to share with other Cyrus researchers. My husband's mother, Emily Cyrus Burd, had always told her family that she was related to the first white child born in Kanawha Co West Va - Jacob Young, son of John Young and Keziah Tackett Young. She now has alzheimers and can not share information with us and I have been trying to find the connection. It has taken five years, but today it all came together. Here is what I found: 1850 Putnam Co West Va - Jacob Young Sr. 62 and wife Nancy (Stevenson) 65, Jacob 23, Samuel 21, Nancy 21. (Other older children had already moved out of the home.) They lived near James Cyres 32, farmer, wife Margaret, 32 (Young?) and children Cintilla, 10; John H, 7; Nancy, 5; and James M., 2. (Family history says the middle name is Marion) In 1880 Putnam Co census James M.Cyrus, 32, is listed with wife Elizabeth, 30; and children Santilla (Tillie) 7, Anna B, 4, and Maggie, 2. On this forum there was a posting that indicated a marriage for this James M. on 29 May 1870 to Elizabeth Thucken? I think her name was Thacker. The Thacker and Cyrus families intermarried a lot and I think James M. married a cousin, but that is just a guess at present. Also, the other James M. Cyrus who was older and listed in Putnam Co. census records was a cousin. My James M. Cyrus died before 1890. Other children born to James M. Cyrus and Elizabeth (who was born in Ohio according to both the census records and family memories): Avrel a son born 21 Sep 1880, Fred A. born 1886. (There may also have been a daughter Daisy). In 1886 James M. Cyrus married Lydia Beasley, daughter of Robert Charles and Jemima Franklin Beasley. They had: Andrew Moses, born 28 Jan. 1887, and a daughter Virginia (Vernie) In the 1910 Kanawha Co West VA census Lydia Cyrus, widow, is listed as living with her parents and her two children on her parents' farm. Also a nephew Wilbur Beasley lived with them. In Putnam Co Avrel Cyrus, 30, and Fred A. Cyrus, 24, are living with their sister Maggie, born 1878, and her husband Lawson Moore. Anyone who has more information on this family, please contact me. We have been searching for this James M. for a long time. My husband's grandfather was only 2 when he died, and no one else knew anything about him. Notify Administrator about this message?
