Acadia: British Census 1667
Posted by: v. suzanne sears (ID *****1949) Date: August 15, 2009 at 16:50:17
  of 1753

It is reported that just prior to handing Acadia back to the French after the Treaty of Breda, Thomas Temple ordered a census taken.

Temple felt completely ripped off that he was losing Acadia and wanted to prove to the British crown that he deserved compensation......thus the reason for a census.

His son in law Nelson was his man in Acadia.........who ran things for him.

I have not yet found evidence of one.......but it is completely consistent with what Temple would have done....

and as he sent volumes of letters to the King of England and the King of France pleading his case: I can't believe such a key document was not recorded somewhere:

either in his papers or in archives.

If such a census could be found: it could be proof positive that our Pierre either was or was not in Acadia that year.

Anyone have any knowledge of this document or where to look?
