Your grandfather is very likely to have been Turkish Cypriot. Surnames were not used by Turkish Cypriots until after 1974. Before this period a Turkish Cypriot's second name indicated their fathers first name. Therefore your great grandfathers first name would have been Osman. It will be non-applicable to search for your grandfathers records by surname. I too am from Turkish Cypriot descent and recently compiled my family tree up to the late 1700's. This was with information I obtained from a trip to the Ottoman archives in Northern Cyprus. I have copies of the registry of citizens in a few Turkish Cypriot villages from 1790 to present. It may be possible to trace your grandfather through these records if you know his original village. However if you do not know his original village please let me know as much info as possible on your grandfather to help in searching through the archives. My direct email is erolkagan@btconnect.com
