Dervish (correct spelling would be dervis)is a Turkish name. Have you ever heard of the whirling dervises of Konya? Dervises are a form of muslim clerics. It is a very common Turkish last name. You say that your father was born in Cyprus, do you know when? Due to atrocities commited by the Greek against Turks in Cyprus many Turks were forced to leave the Island in the 50's and 60's.
