correction: it was the empress Matilda who drove King Stephen of Blois into exile. With her son Henry fitzEmpress's accession to the English throne the Angevins, Henry's father's house of Angeou, are considered to have become the new dynasty. Of course Stephen's daughter Mathilde carried the lineage of St.Ide into the Norman kings of England on her mariage but the senior representation of the house of Blois as well as the lineage of St.Ide continued in the kings of Scots until in 1603 King James VI (James I in England) the King of Scots succeeded his cousin Elizabeth Tudor as king of England.
The papal gonfanon which Alexander II seems to have allowed as a privelege to the men in Sainte Ide's family, and which became the arms of the Latin Kingdom of Jerusalem, became combined with the arms of Cyprus when the two kingdoms were conjoined. Even earlier than the official union of Cyprus and Jerusalem a denier of Guy de Lusignan who had married Queen Sybil, bears a cross couped at the ends with four roundels between the arms. On Guy's death n 1194 his brother Aimery de Lusignan succeeded to the Kingdom of Cyprus and in 1197, after marrying Queen Isabella, he was elected by the Haute Cour to be King of Jerusalem. He died in 1205. A silver gros of Aimery's reign bears a cross potent with four crosslets between the arms, impaling Lusignan of Cyprus. Guy de Lusignan is the ancestor of the Princes of Nicosia and probably every modern Cypriot is a descendant of the brothers Guy and Aimery.
