C17th Cyprus - Mnason references

I am researching the English incidences of the surname MNASON, the earliest occurence so far found in 1642 and a connected genealogy from 1700 to 1856. The name may be Cypriot, this suggested by the sole Biblical reference to the name - the name looks Greek but since the Gospels were written in Greek that's not surprising!

Can any one speculate on the origins of the name MNASON or suggest someone who can?

Mike Nason
