Where can I find information about this surname? I've recently learnt from my father, through a cousin in Nicosia with access to official records, that my grandfather, Antonios Georgiou Koyzis (or Koizas), was born on 17 November 1887 in Enkomi. His father, George Koyzis, is reputed to have lived anywhere from 110 to 118 years, finally dying in the mid-to-late 1930s. He may be buried in Koma tou Yialou, but of course I can't get there to see for myself. If anyone knows the origins of this family, I'd be grateful for any information.
There is a rumour that the family name may originally have been French--perhaps Coizie or Coisy. On the other hand, I know that the name KOUZIS is found amongst Greeks, but our name is spelt Kappa-Omicron-Iota-Zita-Ita-Sigma, with two dots over the Iota.
I understand there is a quite well-known classical guitarist in Cyprus named Antonis Koizas. I can't help concluding there may be a blood relationship of some sort.
Any information would be welcome.
