Hi Beverly,My great grandparents are James Cyphers and Keziah Banghardt (Mt Gilead, Morrow Co, Oh).They came to OH in c:1832 from Belvidere, NJ. As the tale goes the Cyphers came from Holland or Germany and had something to do originally with farming and ship building. There were 7 brothers originally entering or settling in the NY area (I don't know what year this was.James Cyphers (My great grandfather) named my grandfather Harley Clay Cyphers. I noticed in one entry in forum there is a message posted by Glen Adkins who states a John Calvin Cyphers b. 1820 has listed his father as Andrew Cypher and mother as Mary CLAY.This might be a coincidence that my grandfather's middle name was CLAY..I am not sure?? I remember when I was 5 or 6 years old that a Charles Arthur Cyphers came to visit us from New York and was an uncle or cousin to my grandfather, Harley. This Cyphers was an heir to the Cyphers Incubator and Poultry Farming/Manufacturing family.. (you can find some poultry catalogues early 1900's through Ebay auctions by entering Cyphers)..I remember seeing the name Jacob Marion Cyphers in some family literature. If you have found out more or any one else could help with New Jersey or New York connections please message me.
