Hi, I've been doing some ancestral research for a friend of mine & here's the information I collected on his Cutting ancestors. Sounds like their part of the same family. Cheers! Count Caragata
38. William Cutting, labourer; of Erin, Erin Twp, Wellington County, Ont; born County Kent, England, June 16, 1833; died Erin Twp, Apr 23, 1896, aged 62 yr, 10 mo & 7 days, re 1896 Ont Death Regstrtn # 020673, survived by wife Mary Jane, parents not named in death record, Methodist; named in his daughter Lizzie’s 1892 Ontario Marriage Registration # 012612 (see # 18 & 19); Of interest, an older Wm Cutting is buried in the Everton Cemetery, Eramosa Twp, Wellington Co - his gravestone advises he died Dec 23, 1882, aged 75 yr (b 1807) - Wm’s father perhaps?; William Cutting married in Ontario ca 1860-62:
39. Mary Jane Dingman, born Ont 1841; living 1896 re husband’s death record; died, probably in Ont, post Apr 1896; named in her daughter Lizzie’s 1892 Ontario Marriage Registration # 012612 (see # 18 & 19); re 1881 Ont Census for Wellington Co, Erin Twp, Dist 151, Sub-Dist E, Div 1, Pg 45, HH (household) 201: Wm Cutting, farm labourer, age 48 (b 1833), b Eng, Weslyan Methodist; wife Mary Cutting, age 40 (b. 1841), b Ont; children all born in Ont: Mary, age 19 (b. 1862), Sarah (known by her middle name of Elizabeth or Lizzie), 17 (b. 1864), Susannah, 15 (b. 1866), Philip, 13 (b. 1868); William, 10 (b 1871); Martha, 4 (b 1877); James, 1 (b 1870).
76. William Cutting, possibly father of Wm Cutting, # 38; farmer; of Erin Township, Wellington Co, Ont; born England, 1808; liv re 1871 Census; died Ont? post 1871; re 1871 Ont Census for Wellington Co, Erin Twp, Dist 34, Sub-Dist G, Div 1, pg 42, Household 143: Wm Cutting, age 63 (b 1808), born England, Church of England, retired farmer, married; Mary Anne Cutting, age 55 (b 1816), born Eng, Ch of Eng, married. The 3 following households, #s 144-46 are all occupied by Cuttings (probably sons of Wm & Mary Anne Cutting), the heads of the households being: Henry Cutting, age 30 (b 1841), b Eng, Ch of Eng, farmer (wife Phoebe, 28, b Ont 1843; children b Ont: Elizabeth, 8, Phoebe, 7, John, 6, Henry, 4, Thomas, 2, Edwin, 1); John Cutting, 36 (b 1835), b Eng, Ch of Eng, labourer (wife Sarah, 25, b USA 1846; children b USA: George, 5, Walter, 3, Wm, 1); Thomas Cutting, 39 (b 1832), b Eng, Ch of Eng, farmer (wife Martha, 30, b Ont 1841). Wm Cutting, # 38, also of Erin Twp, was born in England in 1833, age 38 in 1871 - was #38 a brother of Henry, John & Thomas? Of interest, there lies buried in an Erin Twp, Wellington Co cemetery (info from a published list of those buried in 12 small cemeteries in Erin), one Philip Cutting who died Sept 9, 1870, aged 66 (b 1807), of County Kent, England - Wm’s brother perhaps? Note that death record of Wm Cutting Jr, # 38, records he was also born in Co Kent. Re 1871 Ont Census Index, nine families of English born Cuttings living in Wellington County, including two older men: Wm, aged 63, & Philip, aged 66, plus six younger men in their 30s & one in his twenties. It would appear that Philip, aged 66, is probably the father of Wm, aged 39, & of Thos, aged 25. Philip’s brother would be Wm Sr, #76, who would have 4 sons living nearby: Wm Jr (#38), aged 37; Henry, aged 30; John, aged 36, & Thomas, aged 34. William Cutting Sr married in England ca 1831:
77. Mary Anne ~~~~~ (maiden name unknown), possibly mother of Wm Cutting, # 38; born England, 1816; living re 1871 census; died Ont? post 1871.
