David, My sister and I are trying to find the answer to the same question. Possibilities we have come up with include: It is a contraction from the Scottish names McCutcheon and Shaw. Perhaps cousins marrying or something. From the German "Gottschalk" From the Slavic "Cutchaw" If you find anything definitive, please let us know.
