Hello Margaret ---
Hugh Cuthbertson and Mary McClandlish lived in the Boston area.
Mary McClanlish was B: 05 Mar 1803 in Scotland.
Mary died 16 Jan 1890 in Somerville, MA and is buried in Everett, MA
Have not found the Death date of Hugh but I beleive is was before 1860.
Two of their children were:
Margaret b: abt 1832 in Scotland. m: 28 May 1853 in Boston to Frederick Freeman son of Rev. Frederick Freeman of Sandwich, MA She died after 1865. Her husband a seaman, died in 1859 on a trip to Africa. Margaret might have re-married.

James Born: 08 Aug 1841 in Scotland married to Mary Card
b: Dec 1841 in Nova Scotia. d: 15 Apr 1899 in Somerville, MA
Mary D: 07 Jul 1907 in Somerville.
Your Thomas appears on several records in MA but until you mentioned the connection have not tied them together.
