Samuel's father Cuthbert Cuthbertson m. Sarah Allerton Priest, widow of Mayflower passenger Degory Priest, and they sailed for New England in 1623 on the "Anne". Every place I have seen him listed, it seems to be assumed that Samuel was the child of Cuthbert and Sarah. However, I just came across a document entitled "List of the Separatist who decided to Stay in Leyden" (after the Mayflower left, since many of them arrived later) that lists "Cuthbertson, Cuthabert {wife Elizabeth, child Samuel). Thus, first wife Elizabeth must have died shortly after the Mayflower left Leyden, leaving one child, Samuel. Sarah's husband Degory Priest died 1 Jan 1621 after the Mayflower landed, leaving two daughters, Mary and Sarah. Godbert and Sarah married and sailed on the "Anne" with his son Samuel and her daughters Mary and Sarah Priest. Here is a summary of all additional information I have on them. (My connection is with Sarah Allington Priest and her daughter Sarah Priest.) (He is also known as Godbert Godbertson) "Godbert, a pious Hollander, or a "Dutch Walloon", joined Robinson's church at Leyden, Holland. Occupation: Hat maker in Leyden, Holland He had previously been married in 1617 to Elizabeth Kendall. He became a "purchaser", i.e. a shareholder, in Plymouth when it was formed in 1626. He died seven years later in Plymouth, of 'infectious fever'. Sarah died before 24 Oct 1633. On 11 Oct 1633, their (her) son-in-law Phineas Pratt (who married her daughter Mary Priest) was appointed 'to take possession of the personal property of Cuthbert Cuthbertson and his wife Sarah'. His son Samuel Cuthbertsn or Godbertson, moved to Dartmouth in 1652. He was one of the origional purchases of Dartmouth. I have nothing beyond this and likely won't be actively looking for more since he isn't my ancestor, but hope this will be of interest to someone. M. Willison Notify Administrator about this message?
