thank you for your kind reply! I agree, spelling of names is somewhat unreliable on original records, however, i think some families changed the spelling on purpose of identifications within the family units. regardless of spelling, can you provide any "clues" to me if cuthbertsons were in the united states about 1800 (or earlier)? i have hit my "brick wall" with my James b)1814, and according the fed.census of 1880 both his parents were born in Virginia.
I did find on the web a John Culverson b)1803 (Ontario Hist. Society church record) which could relate to my James if this family immigrated to the u.s. by 1814(va.) i am new to researching the cuthbertson family so any help appreciated. you may feel free to e mail direct to me.
