Bartholmew Cussen's godfather's name was Thomas Howard, so there may have been an uncle by that name. I am wondering if he had a murky past he was trying to hide by using the alias. The step-father has me very puzzled since it seems a big coincidence that Mary Howard and Ellen Howard were both married to men named John Dugan. My posting had a typo, it should have been Huntington. I have had no luck finding a likely John Dugan in Ohio or Indiana.
