I received the Civil War pension record for Bartholmew Cussen(alias Thomas Howard) which contained the following information:
A record of his baptism signed by the pastor of the chrurch in Manister, Limerick, Ireland stating that he was baptised on the 11th of July, 1835 the son of Mary Howard and Bartholomew Cussen. There is a statement by Bartholomew that his wife's name was Martha DeLong, they were married Feb. 1, 1872 in Paulding, Ohio, and that he had 2 sons: Thomas, born July 30, 1873 and Francis, born Oct. 27, 1875. There is a letter from James F. Cussen (Francis?)of Fort Cobb, OK stating that he and his brother, Thomas Cussen of Hintingon, Indiana, were Bartholomew's heirs after his death on August 30, 1911 at the Veterans' Hospital in Hot Springs, Arkansas. There are 2 statements by men who served in the war with him. They are diffiult to read, but one says that the man knew Bartholomew's mother and brother, paul and the other states that the man knew Bartholmew's step-father, John Dugan. There is no reason given for his having used the alias Thomas Howard.
