Thank you very much for responding to my post.I've been checking every day and hoping you were still connected to the Curtis thread.
My connection to George E. Curtis goes like this.George's youngest son was Philip Sheldon Curtis who married Nona A. Henderson.Philip and Nona had three sons and a daughter.Their son Philip Sheldon Jr. married Doris M. Bowen.Philip Jr. and Doris also had three sons and a daughter.Their second son is my father, Paul R. Curtis.I'm Robert R. Curtis, and my son is Samuel P. Curtis.
I saw another of your posts where you mention the connection between the Penney family and Hamilton College in New York.My wife and I are both graduates of Hamilton.Small world.Another of your posts provided me with the names of George E.s siblings. Thanks for this.
As I mentioned I'm pretty new to this family history stuff.I've been focussing on direct father to father connections.A Curtiss family history published in 1903 that I downloaded from the BYU library ends with Horation Nelson's generation, but does a good job tracing the family back from there to the original immigrants.
Right now, I'm most interested in collecting details of the lives of the Curtis fathers in my line -- what they did for work, whether they left any artifacts portraits, letters or photographs, explanations of why they did what they did in their lives, where they're buried, run-ins with the law, military service, etc.
For example, I came across mention of Horatio being sued byhis fellow Rochesterians for building part of his mill on the Genessee River bottom.Apparently, the mill was constantly falling into the river or burning down.
I'd appreciate anything you could share in this regard. Also, there are a few specifics regarding the Curtis' that I need to straighten out.For example, the names of George E.'s sons that appear in the LDS listin of the 1880 census are close to but not exact matches for the names in a partial familty tree that I got from my father.
Is is best to continue our conversations via the Genealogy.com web site, or would you prefer that I contact you directly at the e-mail listed on the site?
Thanks again for your kind response to my note.I hope to hear from you again.
