Martin Curtis of St. Joseph and Cass Co., MI
My Martin Curtis was born circa 1833 in Ohio or NY.He married Sarah "Sally" Ann WEATHERWAX (1842-1924), the eldest surviving daughter of Henry VanDerCook Weatherwax (1812-1867) and his first wife, Mary Etta WING (1822-1853). Martin and Sally had five children: Mary L. Curtis (Mrs. James SMITH), Lydia Estella Curtis (Mrs. William CARR), Hannah L. Curtis (Mrs. George FREY), Olive Curtis (Mrs. Amos E. CALDWELL) and Martin Curtis, Jr. (Maud WRIGHT). From an existing family will, we do know that this Martin Curtis had siblings Nelson Curtis (died 15 February, 1867) of Cass Co., MI; Roxana Curtis GARRISON (1816-1896, Mrs. Henry Garrison) of Kalamazoo Co., MI; Laura Curtis FOSTER of Mitchell Co., IA and Orange Curtis of Cass Co., MI.Martin Curtis died 9 September, 1915 in Newbergh Twp., Cass Co., MI and was buried in Sand Hill Cemetery, Newbergh Twp., Cass Co., MI. His widow survived him by a little better than nine years. Sally Weatherwax Curtis is buried beside her husband in Sand Hill Cemetery.A number of Curtis families settled in Cass Co., but none appear to be related to our Martin and his tribe. Henry VanDerCook Weatherwax and his second wife, Eliza Jane EDDY, were my great-great grandparents. I am attempting to clear up some genealogical loose ends here. Any assistance in determining the ancestry of this particular Martin Curtis would be greatly appreciated.
