Hello,
I recently discovered that my great great grandparents Matthew Curran and Mary Curtis were married in Dixie, Ontario, Canada on Dec. 12 1865.The marriage records read Mathew Curran, age 31, resident of the United States, born in Ireland, son of parents Laurence Curran and Jane Martin; married Mary Curtis, age 21, resident of Toronto Township, born in County Meath, daughter of Peter Curtis and Catherine Finnigan; on 12 December 1865; witnesses Mathew Maher and Alice Curtis both residents of Toronto Township.I know from my g-g grandfather's military records that he was born in Co. Meath, Ireland as his wife Mary Curtis was.
I thought it was quite interesting that similar first and last names show up in your family search and they too were from Co. Meath. It could just be a coincidence. From what I gather from your post your great grandmother was Catherine Curtis before marriage. My g-g-g grandmother would have been Catherine Finnigan before marriage to Peter Curtis and she would have been more likely to have been born in 1801 then 1901.Do you have documentation that she was born in 1901 and was a Curtis before marriage. If nothing else being from the same birthplace (Co. Meath, Ire.)with similar names their could be a connection.I don't know the birthplace town or city of my g-g and g-g-g grandparents in Co. Meath, Ire.I know Matthew Curran and Mary Curtis came to the USA from Ireland most likely through Canada.I don't know if Peter Curtis and his wife Catherine Finnigan came to the USA with them or stayed in Ireland.
