Churchwell Curtis, Sr., b. abt. 1735, Sussex County, Va. d. Before July 20, 1812, Mecklenburg Co., VA.He married Lucy 1770 in Mecklenburg County, Va.She was born 1757.Churchwell was the first Curtis to settle in Mecklenburg County around 1770.Either he was a newly arrived immigrant or a descendent of earlier Curtises who had settled in the James River , Virginia area or of the North Carolina Curtises.(This is the info I have but it doesn't make sense to me since he was born in Va.How could he be an immigrant?) He was protesstant.Children of Churchwell Curtis and Lucy are: Jesse Curtis, b. 1772, Carter Curtis, b. 1773, There is some question whether Carter is a son to Churchwell.Zechariah Curtis, Sr., b. 1775, Mecklenburg County, VA, d. Jan. 2, 1851, Mecklenburg Co., Va.,Churchwell Curtis, Jr., b. 1781, Mecklenburg County, VAd. after 1850, Harrison, Texas, John Curtis, b. September 15, 1783, Mecklenburg Co., Va., d. November 23, 1868, Cranbury, Beckley, Raleigh County, West Virginia.Let me know if I can help any more.If you run into any info or pictures along the way for Bolling (Bowlin) Curtis and on down the line would you please share them with me?Thanks.
