Curtis family in AR.
There were very many Curtis families in AR in the 19th century. Most came from C or SC, usually through TN, but also MS and AL. They generally lived in the western part of the srate, Clark Co. (Amity) north to beyond Ft. Smith,Many went to TX as were many others in that time.Several large families, including the Thomas-Moses-Hillary lines can be found in some detail in the World Family Tree cds.
Except for, of course, my line. James W. Curtis was b ca 1806 inTN, m Mary King, d/John, in Pope Co 1851.Went to Tx, back to Carroll Co., AR 1860, then to independence Co by 1880, where dau Mary Ellen m Jacob Pate, and son Martin Alvin m Winnie Deaton. My wife is Ellen's gd.It seems certain James was from the Hillary clan because of the convergance of dates, places, and given names, but there is no data to connect. Can anyone help? John T. Barr, Easley, SC
