The Richard Curtis you are looking for is in my family line. I'm from Summit, Pike Co., Mississippi.
In front of my house on my cousin's land there is an old cemetry that is called the Norman/Curtis family cemetry.Buried there is family members or cousins of Richard Curtis.
There is a Curtis Bible in possession of O. B. Curtis in Jackson, MS. Copied 12-02-63 by Mrs. James Polk Morris, Jr. of Kentwood, LA. Richard Curtis, Sr., left So. Carolina around 1780. Richard, JR. was imprisoned for his religious beliefts 1795 in this area. Listed in Salem Church, Jeffeson County, MS, 1798. From the dates one would believe the record might be that of the son of Richard, Jr., 1755-1811., the first Baptist Minister in MS buried near Liberty, MS. This was even in our old MS history books about Richard Curtis being the first Baptist preacher in MS.
In my family, the Curtis name shows up several times. My g-aunt married Rev. Charles Shadrach Curtis, a cousin married Theodocia Jane Curtis (Boggs). Then my g-mother's mother was Martha Adaline Curtis.
So you see, there is a lot of Curtis family ties in MS.
My family names are McCulley, Norman, Curtis, Reeves, Boggs, White, Busby, Huffman, Felder and of course my husband's name Weber.
There are stories in a family history book in our library in regards to Richard Curtis with mentions of the wars.
Bonnie Cole has done a good bit of research in tying this in to her family also. The above mentioned family book is her work.
If I can help you, let me know.
