My husband's father used to say it was originally o'curry but they dropped the o in the middle of the ocean, for what that is worth.
Ours settled in Middletown Connecticut for the first 10 years where we understand there were lots of quarries and the Irish were encouraged to come for that work.There were a Michael and also a William Curry in the area--actually one of them were in nearby Portage, which I understand is immediately next to Middletown.I have wondered how to trace Michael and William Curry beyond the 1850 census for Middletown--beyond the age I have little to go on and no longer have easy access tocensus records.
I just noticed in another mailing today that the name Curry is historically associated with county Clare, though that doesn't mean they can't move around.Joyce Curry
