George Currie was one of 14(?) children. He was born Oct. 19, 1905. His mother's name was Julie, but we are unsure of his father's first name. The family came from Scotland, and so George had brothers and sisters born there as well as some born after the family settled in Toronto. They lived on Balliol Street and the property remained in the family until the death of George's sister Ruby two and a half years ago. George's siblings included: Pat, Margaret, Nellie, Ruby, Jack (John), Frances (who moved to New York City), and a sister Julie. When George was a young boy (approximately 7 yrs old), his father deserted the family. The mother was unable to support such a large family on her own, and George and Jack lived in an orphanage until their sister Margaret was married and able to look after them. The family story is that George's father committed some sort of crime, and his son (we aren't sure of his name) took the blame and was sent to jail. The father was never heard from again. We have heard that he may have possibly moved to New York State, but we wouldn't be surprised if he had remained in the Toronto area while avoiding detection. We are trying to find out the name of George's father, and what happened to him. We are also trying to find any of George's ancestors.
