The following information comes from an obituary published in what I believe to be the local Lewiston, New York newspaper regarding the death of John (Jack) Thomas Currie on December 9, 1979; John T. Currie, 63, of 120 Center St., Lewiston, dies Sunday (Dec. 9, 1979) in Mount St. Mary's Hospital after a short illness. Born in Buffalo, he was the son of the late Frederick and Marie (O'Neil) Currie. A 36-year employee of Union Carbide Inc., he was a former supervisor and was recently a guard at the Mining and Metals Division. He lived in Lewiston for the past 24 years and was a Niagara Falls resident before moving to Lewiston. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of St. Peter's Church, Lewiston chapter of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Exempt Lewiston Fire Co. #1 and the Ushers Society of St. Peter's. He is survived by his wife, Beatrice (Harrold) Currie; two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Constance) Gray and Debra Currie, both of Lewiston; two sons, J. Thomas Jr. of Lewiston and Michael Currie of New York City; two sisters, Alice Doty of Youngstown and Mary Hamm of Lewiston; four brothers, Frederick of Allegany, N.Y., Thomas of San Diego, William of Hampton, Va., and James of Newfane; and five grandchildren. Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Peter's Church with the Monsignor Anthony Caliguiri officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Writer: J.P. Gary Gallant. The following information regarding the military service of John "Jack" Currie comes to me from a Currie family heirloom called "The Book of Baby Mine". This was a record book kept by Beatrice Amy Currie (nee Harrold) which she recieved at the time of her daughter's birth (Debra Sue Currie). In this book she diligently wrote about the military service of her husband. JPGG. John "Jack" Currie served in the Second World War from February 1942 to September of 1943. He trained at Fort Lee, Virginia and Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He served in Northern Africa in December of 1942 and saw action until he was wounded in July of 1943. He was in the hospital at Staten Island, New York and Atlantic City, New Jersey and was honorably discharged in September of 1943. Notes for BEATRICE AMY HARROLD: January 22, 2009. Writer: J.P. CURRIE Led Girl Scout Troop for Ten Years LEWISTON - Beatrice H Currie of 120 Center Street., died Saturday (Jan 14, 1984) in Mount St. Mary's Hospital after a long illness. She was 59. The lifelong Lewiston resident was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Lewiston and a leader of A Girl Scout Troop for 10 years. She was a trustee and past President of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Lewiston Fire Co. No. 1. Surviving are daughters, Mrs. Robert (Constance) Gray of Lewiston and Mrs. Robert (Debra) Morris of Niagara Falls, Ont.; sons J. Thomas Currie of Lewiston and Michael of Pembroke Pines, Fla.; a brother, Joseph Harrold of Tonawanda; and six grandchildren. She was the wife of the late John T. Currie , who died Dec 9, 1979. She was the daughter of the late Thomas and Dorothy (McCabe) Harrold and sister of the late Thomas Harrold. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at the Hardison Funeral Homes, Inc., Lewiston. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Chapel at the First Presbyterian Church of Lewiston with the Rev. Paul Moore officiating. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.
