Hi Jan:Samuel Davis d. and named Mary Hoffman, his daughter,in his will.Abel Davis ]c1765-1847]m. Mary Hoffman/Huffman or Davis (some say she was a Davis cousin others think she may have been a Huffman/Hoffman. Abel & Mary Davis had a daughter, Mary, b. 1790 who m. Enoch Current on 2 Apr 11807, s/o James Current in Monongalia Co.
Abel and his family may have been members of the large Seventh Day Baptist sect that migrated from NJ to SW PA and up the Monongalia River where they setled in Salem, VA.There were many Davis families in & around Salem which at the time located in Monongalia Co. some 20-30 mles west of Grafton where Abel DAvis & James Current. There were some 18 or 19 Davis families in Monongalia Co in the 1810 census as was Abel & family. By the time my Davis family arrived in White co., IN in 1835 many members had become Methodists and may have been in VA & OH.
Rebecca Lawrence has a genealogical report in FTM on the Descendants of Sir William Davis. b. 1640.The index of her web site includes and Abel Davis but no information concerning vital statistics.Abel DAvis arrived in Monongalia Co in the mid 1790's.Where he was before that is not yet known.Joe
