Mayor James Michael Curley was born in Roxbury (part of Boston) on November 20, 1874.
He married Mary Emelda Herlihy in 1906. They had 9 children, the eldest being James Michael Curley Jr..
Mary died in 1930. Mayor James Michael Curley married Gertrude Casey in 1937. None of Mayor Curley's children had any children.

Mayor James Michael Curley had 2 brothers. John, the oldest, was married and had 5 daughters. The youngest, Michael, died at the age of 2 years old.
