Boats did leave from Galway to the U.S.. My grandfather took a boat from Galway directly to Boston in 1908. I believe only a very small percentage of people came directly from Galway. I would be curious what the actual percentage was. Most of the people left from Queenstown, Co.Cork. Queenstown was originally called Cobh ( pronounced Cove). At some point they changed the name back to Cobh. Take Care!
