i have a confusing situation. i am researching curtmans in america and i keep running accross names that i cannot associate with any family tree...daniel curtman appears on the census in 1790 york co penn...it talks about family history and then goes to a book written in 1971(i might add it as very comprehensive book), about the curfmans...many of the names i have come up with cannot not be traced to known curtmans in america...my question is how does one distinguish between the two families and is there any curfmans still going by the curtman name/?after the 1920 census i haven't seen a lot of people i can't identify.there are also a number of african americans on these census. i saw where curfmans had owned slaves but i have as yet not found any curtmans who where slave holders. i did have a curtman ancestor who fought for the cfa....perhaps there is no clear answer but i haven't found common ancestors among them and they were from differnt parts of germany...the common thread that i found they were both members of the evangelical church...if you know of a researcher i could turn to are some other helpful information iwould appreciate hearing from you..jim in san antonio
