Daniel N. Curb article in 1952 Texas paper
The Galveston News paper from July 18, 1952 pg.5 ran an article with a picture of "Rev.Dan N. Curb" pending a sermon he was giving on the following Sunday at the First Baptist Church in Galveston Texas (where his brother Oscar Monroe Curb lived)
"A minister who began his service in the Baptist Church 50 years ago in Indian Territory will be guest speaker Sunday in the First Baptist Church.
The Rev. Dan N. Curb, who with Mrs Curb, is visiting in the city, will preach at the 11 a.m. worship, according to the Pastor, Dr. Harold L. Fickett.
The oldest of six brothers, The 80 year old minister from Oklahoma City is the guest for two weeks of his youngest brother, O.M.Curb, American National Insurance Co here.
Another brother, the late Rev. Charley Curb, who served as a minister in Oklahoma for 52 years in the Evangelistic field, held a revival here at First Baptist Church in 1934. The brothers, Dan and Charley, often worked together in Church meetings.
Lived in Texas
Born in Alabama in 1872, the visiting minister was brought to Texas in 1873 by his parents who settled near Belton. In 1883, 24 years before Oklahoma became a state, the family moved to the Indian Territory.Mr. Curb was educated in the schools there.
Fifty years ago when he began his ministerial service, there were few church buildings, and he held meetings for four Baptist churches in an area about 30 miles from the present city of ARDMORE Oklahoma, in the school houses that had been constructed in what are now Love and Carter counties.
For almost four years Mr. Curb rode horseback to serve the churces. On occasion he used a buggy and a pair of riding ponies.but the abscence of bridges and the prevailing road conditions made horseback riding the preferred transportion. The minister often had to swin creeks to reach his destination.
Ministerial Service
Mr Curb, when questioned, was exceedingly modest about his accomplishments in the ministry. He began his first full time pastorial in 1905 at the Immanuel Baptist Church in Ardmore. For six years he was state evangelist for the Baptist Convention of Oklahoma.
Until his retirement in 1945, he had served for 16 years as field representative for the Baptist Orphans Home in Oklahoma City, where he now makes his home.He attended the first state Baptist convention in 1904 and has missed only three of the coventions since that time.
The retired minister has been a member of the state mission board and of the board of trustees of Oklahoma Baptist University at Shawnee, where his four children have been students. The children are: Dr.D.G.Curb of Waco (Delos Griffith Curb); Dan Curb Jr. of Houston; Mrs James W. Read of Altus Oklahoma who is the wife of the pastor Altus First Baptist Church; and Mrs. R.N.Matthews of Canadian Texas.
Visiting with their children is one of their greates pleasures Mr.and Mrs.Curb admit. They will be the guest of their son in Houston after leaving here. The couple was wed August 16, 1896 in Leon, Love County, Oklahoma.Six years ago they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a family reunion at the home of their daughter, Mrs. Read in Altus. The couple has nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
A pleasant and quite active man, the retired minister has not given up altogether the profession which he has devoted a lifetime. His service is in demand for Bible service and as a supply minister, and his appearance as a guest preacher here is being looked forward to with unusual interest"
