The following is an excerpt from the Docuement UNDER THE CLOUDS A SILVER LINING by Dolph L. Curb M.D., page 2:
"Monroe Curb was Abner and Mary's firstborn, on March 30, 1843 in Perry Co, Alabama, and he grew up on his fathers farm.He had two sisters, Frances Irene, born Feb 17, 1844, and Martha (Mat, or Mattie) born about 1846, and a brother, WASHINGTON RUFUS, born June 24.Other relatives lived in Morgan Springs neighborhood, including the families of his fathers two brothers, James and Carol Curb.Monroe had very little schooling: just about enough to read and write."
Another excerpt on page 10 includes:
"The following fall, 1873, Monroe and Fannie finally decided to leave Alabama for Texas. This was not surprising in the light of the large migration going on from the depressed economy in the South, and the reports coming back from the west of great opportunities out there for new settleers.Land was free, or at least cheap, and the were markets for crops and livestock, and farm, as did also his parents, Abner and Mary, who decided to accompany them. Then Monroes's 12 year old brother RUFUS, his spinster sister Martha Jane (Mattie), and Fannie's 19 year old brother McLeod (Mac), decided to go along, too."
Page 12:
"Monroe's brother RUFUS had gone up to the Chickasaw Nation of Indian Territory and was excited by homesteading possibilities there and arranged to rent a place for Monroe's family to move into, near the small towns of Burneyville and Leon, in what later became Love Co, Ok."
