Thank you for your note:you seem to have found much more than I have on Charles CUPPLES.
On reviewing my notes for himin Bute Co NC, I find mention of STRINGFELLOWs; and, I have recently found references to STRINGFELLOWs in Newberry Co SC petitioning to bring into the state slaves from VA.I have not seen the actual petition; but, the time is similar to one I have seen which insisted that the slaves were family slaves--and, not for trade.
I'll add this one to my stack to check when possible:

The fact that CUPPLES was Anglican is interesting.
I notice that he witnessed one deed from a widow, Elizabeth THOMPSON to Zachariah THOMPSON; and, I find a Zachariah THOMPSON mentioned as "Minister of Brunswick" Jul 1772:

I'll do a little work on Bear Swamp.
Thank you so much for sharing your research.
Any comments will be greatly appreciated.
