I've seen over and over again how supposedly the Cundiff line can be traced back to "James Cundiff de Tonge Hill", but how accurate is this? Is this an educated guess or is there a legitimate link?

I found many records in the "BLACKBURN, Lancashire, England Parish Register Baptisms 1568-1706", which is currently readily available online (as entered on 24 July 2007 by Lynn Ransom Burton), including:

"8 Aug 1619 Gyles s. James Cundliffe de Tonge Hill"

According to the transcriber, this means Gyles, son of James Cundliffe of Tonge Hill, was baptised on August 8, 1619.

Also found
"4 Aug 1611 James s. Robert Cundlyffe"
"12 Dec 1615 Jane d. Robte Cundliffe de Mellor"
"13 Oct 1616 Roger s. James Cundliffe"
"2 Feb 1616 Anne d. James Cundliffe de Annelclough"
"15 Feb 1617 Thomas s. James Cunliffe"
"26 Apr 1618 Alis d. Richard Cundliffe"
"13 Jun 1619 Robte s. James Cundliffe de Annel Clough"
"11 Oct 1620 James s. Richard Cundliffe"
"26 Mar 1621 Rich: s. James Cundliffe de Annell Clough"
"18 Nov 1622 Willm s. Willm Clayton de Cundyffe"
"14 Dec 1623 Anne d. James Cundliffe"
"14 Nov 1624 Elizabeth d. Richard Cunliffe [or Rychard Cundlyffe]"
"26 Jul 1626 James s. James Cunlyffe de Tongh"
"3 Jul 1632 Elizabeth d. James Cunliffe"
"13 Nov 1634 Jane d. James Cunliffe"
"28 Mar 1635 Margerie d. James Cunliffe"
"30 Aug 1641 Anne d. James Cunliffe, oppid: base"
"2 Sep 1651 Dorathy d. Giles Cunliffe de Tonghill"
"17 Oct 1658 Elizabeth d. Gyles Cunlife of Tonghill"

and of course, the record in question,

"21 Mar 1638 Rich: s. James Cunliffe, Tonghill"

who is allegedly Richard Cundiff the immigrant.

I've also found nothing to confirm that James "Cundiff" de Tonge Hill died at Wycoller Hall, with Nicholas and John Cunliffe being those who are named as living at Wycoller after both marrying into the Hartley family.

It appears that the Wycoller line were all baptized at St. Bartholemew in Colne, Whalley, Lancashire, according to this pedigree chart:

Having just traced my line to Richard the Immigrant, I'm just trying to get a clear picture of the England connection. I'm finding that the more I look, the more questions arise.
