I answered my own question by doing some more reading around this forum. It appears that they are one and the same. Now I am wondering whether the man who married my great-great-grandmother at her second marriage was a son of this Daniel. Her name was Harriet Fletcher Files, being a widow of Robert Files, and his name was Robert Cummins, b. VA, 1830, d. 8 May 1915, parents also b. VA (which may have been West Virginia). The marriage took place 27 Apr 1876 in Walla Walla, WA. Apparently the Files family and the Cummins family came west on the same wagon train, the Kennedy Wagon Train of 1862, which departed from Oskaloosa, IA. To give some further information, I am copying below the Cummins individuals buried in the Touchet, WA, cemetery.

TOUCHET CEMETERY

Touchet Cemetery in Walla Walla county is located West of
Touchet off Highway 12 in the NW1/4 of NE1/4 of Sec5 T6N R33E.
Turn South onto Byrnes Road going 1/2 mile. Then turn left
by the sign saying "Touchet Cemetery", going across the
railroad tracks then going 4/10 mile passing West of a big
barn. The cemetery is on the knoll on the left side easily seen
as it is bordered by large Lombardi Poplar trees. It is
surrounded with chain link. Next to it is a separate fenced
enclosure with the Martin family. The soil is sandy with a
few weeds. There are a number of unreadable wooden and metal
markers. Earliest burial is 1881 as seen on present headstones.
Walked and read by Rella and Jim Gleaton July 9, 2000.

Transcribed and submitted by Rella Faris Gleaton February 2001.
