I've run int a problem on James s. being father of the Jackson Co., MO Hugh Cummins. Minly this--in 1840 census, Jackson Co., Mo, Hugh cummins is listed as being 60-70 yrs of age. If true that puts his dob as 1770-1780. That won't fit in if Matthew Cummins and his son James Cummins dob are accurate and not estimates. Definately needs more research!
