Tami, Following is the information that one Cummings researchers has given me on Gideon Cummins' brother Stephen. Pvt. in 1 Reg't (Chamber's) Georgia Militia, War of 1812. Capt. Benjamin I. Harper's Co. Stephen served with Gideon Cummins in the War of 1812. Military papers show spelling as "Cummins." Stephen Cummings had a daughter named Sarah. Sarah married John Carpenter, Jr. born 1815. They had a son named Napoleon Carpenter born 1847. John Carpenter, Sr. is the father of John Carpenter, Jr. (who married Sara Cummings) and George Carpenter (married Elizabeth Wallace). Baalam Wallace is the father of Elizabeth Wallace. The original Georgia land lottery deed dated January 24, 1827, conveying 202-1/2 acres of land to Charnell, Charles, Margaret, Martha & Caroline Wallace, orphns. This researcher has asked if you have copies of your Stephen's War of 1812 papers, and that if you don't, they should help you. * * * * * I did not find anything corresponding to your Stephen's family's information, and in looking at the given names of Stephen's children, they do not correspond with given names in our family line. My mother's family history does not go back beyond being from Georgia and Alabama. By 1890, my great-grandfather had moved to East Texas (near one of his uncles) where he married my great-grandmother. They lived in Atlanta, TX, Texarkana, TX, and for a short time in Marlin, TX, before moving to Oklahoma around 1911. The group of Cummings researchers I've been working with (we are all proven descendants of Gideon's various children) have been working for a number of years to tie us into the next generation back. Current efforts are being focused on searching early Craven Co., NC names including Cummings, Wallis (Wallace), Pittman and Mason; also Jackson and Rowe. I am curious to find out more about your Stephen since he ended up in Indiana. I found a copy of a 1930s warranty deed in Indiana (for property in or near Indianapolis) among my grandparent's personal effects. So if you don't mind, I have the following questions regarding your posting regarding your Stephen Cummins: If he was not originally from GA, do you know where he was from? You indicated that Stephen and Margaret were in Napoleon, Ripley Co., IN. When? Also, that they traveled from Phil, PA through OH to IN to Il. Can you give me approximately when they were in these locations? Do you know where and approximately when Stephen and Margaret's children were born? Please let me know if I can answer any other questions for you. Sandy Notify Administrator about this message?
