I am not tracing this family, just noticed the unusual name in one of my books. From "The Land Records of Prince George's County, Maryland, 1717 to 1726" by Elise Greenup Jourdan:
"folio 579, registration of cattle & hog mark of John Cumberbatch."
There is no date listed, but the entries before and after this one are dated 1724.
There were no other listings for this surname in the book.
