HI
No relation to this gentleman or his family. But wanted to share some info I found regarding this gentleman in a book I have been going through.
Book Title: The Simmonite-Culpepper Herbal Remedies.
by William Joseph Simmonite & Nicholas Culpepper
London, W. Foulsham & Co. Ltd.
Inside the cover of this book is the following:
Nicholas Culpepper 1616-1654 was a very famous astrologer-physician of the early 17th Century. After a short apprenticeship to an apothecary in St Helen's Bishopgate, he set up his own practice in Red Lion Street, Spitalfields, in 1640. During his life he devoted much time to the study of astrology and medicine, and published numerous tracts, which although unorthodox and condemned by the contemporary medical standards, nevertheless enjoyed large sales. He left as his legacy to future generations a vast collection of herbal remedies which by virtue of the undating nature of their healing properties, are as valuable today as they were during the physician's lifetime, over 300 years ago.
Anyway thought this may be of some interest to those researching this surname.
Happy Hunting
