I just learned last night that my ancestor, Alenson (Allenson, Alison, etc.) Powell, b.1804 in NC. married Margaret Culpepper (b.1816 in TN). Marriage date was 1833 in TN. The Powells were from Nash Co. NC where Alenson's father (Alenson, Sr.) was born in 1765. Until your posting, I had never seen this forename before. I have a theory that it originally comes from the town of Alencon, France, possibly a Norman/Anglo name from the 11th century, but this is only my very undocumented theory. If you have any connection to my line, I'll be glad to share what I have. Seems there must be some sort of connection because of the unusual name of "Alenson." If you can add to my info, I'd be very grateful.
