It's possible, to find it spelled various ways, I have a Culp and a Kolb line and have found them both spelled, CULP, COBB , KOLB, KALB, CUPP, so far. Census takers and officials among others spelled it the way it sounded to them, causing some of the names to show different spellings, and a lot of these people didn't read or write and didn't know either. The Kolb name was change to Culp by some members of the families.
