Here is a little tale told in connection to Susie/Susan Culp daughter of James Jeffrie Culp and Susan Yeary.
Seems Susie Culp's husband James Holbert was a horse trainer and he once sold a horse to Jesse James even had the ledger book with the sale recorded in it, with Jesse James signature on it.
And yes, there were some Culp and James marriages way back, but I haven't determined if they connect to Lt. Daniel Culp, I haven't been able to determine the names of Lt. Daniel Culp's parents as yet. So maybe the tale of being related to Jessie James isn't that far off???? Possibly some of the Culp's did know Jesse????
A lot of these people moved from place to place together and some of Jesse James ancestors may well have moved at the same time the Culp's did especially with James family members marrying Culp's. One of those earlier James / Culp marriages may have produced the line that Jesse came from, who knows????? I don't know a lot about Jesse James ancestry.
