I am a Cullum researcher. My ancestor was Thomas Owen Cullum who was the brother of William Cullum who eventually married Elisa Turney. There are so many William's in the Cullum line you have to be very careful. The William who married Elisa Turney was born in Clark Co., Ky 1802 and died in Van Buren Co., AR between Feb. & July 1863. He was married first to Polly Barnes in KY. His brother, Thomas, married an Elizabeth who went by Eliza. I have copied the notes in my file on this William. I really don't have much on the Turney's. I just know that they were "very involved" in the lives of the Cullums. Hope this helps.

Notes on William Cullum:
This William CULLUM went by William, Sr. sometime in the mid-1850's in order to distinguish himself from his nephew, William CULLUM, Jr. (son of his brother, Thomas Owen).
In the Clark Co., KY Circuit Court Case to overturn the will of Susannah CULLOM, William CULLOM made the statement that he was the grandson of Susannah CULLOM.
William CULLOM is found on the 1830 Decatur, IL census and the 1840 Van Buren Co., AR census.

William & Polly are found on the 1850 U. S. Census in Van Buren County, AR, Giles Township, Dwelling #186 with Nancy BARNES. I presume that Nancy is the mother of Polly. The age of William is 49, Polly 49 and Nancy BARNES 65. Occupation of William was farmer and value of real estate $1500.

William is found on the 1860 U. S. Census, Van Buren Co., AR, Giles Twp., Dwelling #698 with Eliza, age 29, born in Tennessee, William, age 1, and Nancy Barnes, age 74 (his mother in law). The 1860 Van Buren County Agriculture Census, published in the Cleburne County Historical Journal, summer 1986, gives the following information: "William CULLUM had 320 acres land with 100 acres of it improved. The farm was valued at $3000 and farm implements and machinery at $125. He had 3 horses, 2 mules, 9 milch cows, 4 working oxen, 20 other cattle, 28 sheep and 60 swine in livestock valued at $800. He had produced 1500 bushels Indian corn, 100 pounds wool, 20 bushels irish potatoes, 60 bushels sweet potatoes, 500 pounds butter and 300 pounds honey. Home manufactures were valued at $100 and animals slaughtered at $200."

William Cullum died between Feb. 1863 and July 1863. According to Probate Records of Van Buren Co., Arkansas, he was appointed administrator of the estate of William GADBERRY in Feb. 1863 and in July 1863 he was being replaced as administrator of this estate because of his death.
