Hi Duane,

So sorry I haven't checked for info in years. Thank you for conducting and sharing this research. I'm surprised to see that my grandfather/your great-great uncle James Cullinan was a machinist (most members of my family can barely operate a door knob, and I thought James did some sort of administrative work).

Yes, my first cousin, Gordon Laird, is alive and well in Houston, Texas. Gordon was an officer in the US Navy and later had a successful career in advertising, working for J Walter Thompson. He joined Exxon Corp in NYC, working in media relations, and later transferred to Exxon Houston where he lived w/ his wife, Paula, and their two daughters, Nancy (b. 1952?) and Sally (b. 1955?). Cancer took Sally's life when she was in her early 20's, and a few years later, it took her mother, Paula, as well. Gordon married his second wife, Arlene, in the mid-1980's. Gordon's daughter, Nancy Laird Neville, lives in Los Angeles, where she works as a librarian for the LA Philharmonic Orchestra. She has one child, a son, Stephen (b. 1984?).

I did not think Elsie Laird lived in Texas -- it was my understanding that she was in an assisted living facility in New Jersey until her death, although I could be recalling this incorrectly. As I think I've mentioned to you, my branch of the family was somewhat fractured after the death of my father, Richard Cullinan.

I was not aware that James, Jessie, Elsie, and Allan were all buried @ Hillside Cemetary. I recall visiting James's grave @ a cemetary in Plainfield when I was very young, but did not know its name -- I'm in California, but get to NJ every year or two. I'll visit Hillside on a future trip.

In case you're tracking the youngest generation, here's what my children are doing:
Andrew Maxwell ("Max") James (b. 1983) graduated from UC Santa Barbara, lives in San Francisco, and works a sales executive w/ Santa Barbara-based Citrix Systems, marketing cloud computing services to government and educational clients.
Benjamin Aiden James (b. 1988) graduated from the US Naval Academy @ Annapolis and is currently serving as a 2nd Lt in the US Marine Corps. Right now he is based in Washington, DC, completing a master's degree @ Johns Hopkins Univ. (I know -- unusual duty.)
In 1998, we added a daughter by adoption. Mary Soteros-McNamara (b. 1988) was 15 and orphaned when she joined us. Mary earned a bachelor's degree @ UC Berkeley and is now pursuing a PhD in Biomedical Engineering @ UCLA.
None of my children is married, and no grandchildren as of 2011.

I hope you are well and happy, and I thank you again for sharing this information.

- Jane
