Hello Mike,
I don't know if you are still checking this website...but my gggrandfather was also James Cullen, married to Mary Curran around 1853. His son, John A. was the father of my grandmother, Kathleen Cullen. I know from family research that the Mary and James Cullen moved from Michigan to Minnesota about 1877, (based on information in the 1895 Minnesota State Census) They settled in Swift County near the town of DeGraff. There is actually a book (though I have never seen it) "Swift County's First Pioneers". It lists from the 1880 US Census all residents 21 yrs or older, including James and Mary Cullen and their son, Michael. The 1880 US Census reports the "Inhabitants in the town of Kildare", in the County of Swift, State of Minnesota...James and Mary, four sons, an adopted daughter, two nieces and a nephew. Edmond was 20 and my ggrandfather, John, was 16.
I have odds and ends, but would love to know more if you ever found it.
Good luck and thank you!
Kathleen Lambert
